Growing Tips

Shallots

Shallots are best grown in the same place for several years. Dig soil deeply with manure or compost incorporated in the previous Autumn. Allow to settle, rake down and firm before planting unless weather is very wet. Plant bulbs late February-March, 12" apart, 6" between rows. Press firmly into the soil so that the top is showing. Keep weeds down by hand so not to disturb the roots

Kitchen Tips: Lift bulbs and leave them under cloches or on a path to dry. Clean and store in a frost free, well ventilated area.
